The Stairs Revealed~

I know, I know I wrote that I would show off my staircase a few posting ago & I am sorry that I did not get it done,  but fret no more, here they are in all their new glory SHINY & NEW.
But, wait let us see what they looked like before all of the BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS!  Under each tread we added 1/4" molding in keeping with the other molding we have throughout the house.
Not bad, no stains, tears or discoloration.  The carpet was just old I have asthma and did not want carpet any longer so I asked my husband if we could take it out.
And, he said sure so we took it out that very weekend, he bought all of the material except stain & paint as that is my forte so he left it to me.
Do they not look awesome? I am telling you they were a lot of work, but the reward is so worth it!  My husband bought pine (top grade) for each tread and oak for the landing.  He also did all of the bull nose on each pine tread.  It took so long to get the stairs done because I needed to special order the bit for the bull nose, it is difficult to find a 1" bit in the big box stores.
We are most proud of the landing, my husband did a terrific job cutting all of the wood so that it fit perfect.
I painted all of the risers to match the original molding along the staircase & I needed to mix 2 different stains (Minwax non-toxic, water based) to match the original oak flooring we had throughout the house.  I must say this is another one of my faves. YIKES~I see a boo boo in this photo, can you spot it?  It is the bottom of the table raw wood, I will need to paint this...soon!
The last thing we did was put a protective coating over each step, however, I used a 1/4" nap roller so that I can achieve a rough texture, in other words I wanted each step to have dimples & bumps so that my angels would not slip as they may have had I used another roller for a very smooth look. As I said it was Blood, Sweat & Tears but I would do it all over again I LOVE the way they look!

Thank you for stopping by I hope you like what you see and visit often so that you don't miss out on any of

  3. Could you send your husband to my house please? And then you could visit and finish up the painting/staining. LOL! I've been wanting to do this forever, but just don't know if I could get all the angles correct. What an amazing accomplishment for the two of you. I just love projects that I can say I did myself. Kudos!
