Scratch & Dented To Resurrected

Way back when Pier 1 had outlet stores I bought these two items, they were both pretty beat up & with knobs missing a few scratches and some discoloration but I knew they can be brought back to life with a little TLC.  Well it took me a few years to do just that, okay 10 + years, but the point is I finally did breath some life back into them! Take a look~

This is what I started out with, the top left corner was so badly chipped that I needed to fill it in with filler & re-stain it I thought I did a great job.  The drawers were not original, but that did not bother me so much~
Mini Drawers

I love the way it came out, I know this is a lousy picture and I apologize for that, but you get the point right? The point being it looks awesome~ It is now in one of my angels rooms on one of the bookcases, I painted (post to follow at later date)~
I have found that I have a new love with sharpie pens.  They are so versatile and easy to use, that I seem to be using them for/with so many projects.
I numbered them (okay hubby number them, he has great printing), we had 8 drawers and I am so pleased with the new look~

Empty Treasure Chest
This little beauty has some green markings on it, along with a few big scratches, but I just covered the scratches with some mineral oil and it remained like this for years.  I wanted to update it so~
I painted it with some acrylic paint I had on hand I really did not do much to it, simply painted it & rubbed the paint off to achieve this look~
I had these two designs from a very old book I bought at a library sale that has designs as well as monograms, all I did was use some tracing paper and then I painted over the design~
It is very subtle, but I like the way it looks in both the silver & gold.  I thought I would outline the design, but thought it looked great just the way it is~
I put it under this revamped table on the landing, after we finished our stairs (post on these soon).  It looks so sweet and wow it really needed that update~  What do you think?  Have you taken years to revamp something, share it with me on comments so that I do not feel so bad!

Itchin' for Thriftin'

When we were on vacation for the month of August I was itchin' to go thriftin', I did see some thrift shops but my husband would just not stop, he knows I like to take my time and search for the really good stuff!
Can you believe I went a whole month and a half of not thrifting?  I was having some serious withdrawls.
Yesterday, I was finally able to get out & do some fun thrifting and fun I had, look what I brought home!
Here is the cost run down~

Global Change & The Painted Chair

Since we have returned from our vacation I seem to only have time to do small projects, I am just so busy doing everything else!  UGH, one really needs a vacation after your vacation!!  Right?
I purchased the globes from Michale's a few months back, I thought they would look perfect in out rec room since I decorated it with a global/map/building theme (trust me it all goes well together) I will post some pictures of this room at a later time.

For the pedestals I used some old brass candlestick holders, I bought these at a thrift store for $1.00 for 5 of them.  I needed to cut off the part that would have held the candle so I grabbed a serrated knife and went to work~it worked beautifully!  Next I painted them a bronze color =0( (sorry no pictures).  I then needed to drill a small hole big enough for me to stick them onto the base of the pedestal and a little dab of glue~AND~
                                                                  Here they are!
                                                                   COOL RIGHT?~
Oh, as you can see I did not use the blue globe that you see in the first picture. Instead I had one on a book end that I took apart & used that I liked the colors much better than the blue one.

                                                                  The Painted Chair
I always prayed for a new way to cover older furniture, because I am just not risky enough to use craft paint with a fabric medium although I have seen some amazing pictures of sofas & chairs painted in this manner.  I am afraid I would mess up so bad & there was NO turning back.  I admire people that take the plunge and 'just do it", you brave, brave souls~
This is MY vanity chair and I use it almost everyday when I apply my makeup.
I liked it, I even liked the color, but with 2 little ones running around with dirty fingers at times, it was showing some wear and I was not able to remove some of the stains no matter how hard I  scrubbed~
So I went to one of  my favorite stores Hobby Lobby and purchased 2 cans of this fabric paint in sable brown~
I bought 2 cans because I was not sure what kind of coverage I was going to get & it is better to be safe than sorry~RIGHT?
This is what she looks like now~ It came out really well and I think I achieved pretty good coverage except I think I need to do some touch ups in some places as I am still able to see some stubborn stains that just refuse to be covered~
I was already thinking of how my sofa & chairs would look painted, but I am not so sure if I am brave enough to do it, especially since they are in great condition.  Would you?
Here is an up close picture of the seat, which I think came out the best, perfect I would say.  It looks like some rich chocolate don't you think~ I am so happy that I tried this, the bad thing is, I want to paint everything now, just like my mommy would want to! She loved to paint~

Small~Cute & Colorful

I want one of these little vardos (gypsy caravan). It is so cute, small & full of color!  I wanted to take a look inside, but was unable to find anyone around to ask so I took pictures of the outside, it is very difficult to see the carving above the door, but trust me it is so pretty and the light fixture was very intricate too.  I made my husband take my by this vardo so many times  hoping I would find someone to allow me to take a peak, and to get more/better pictures, but it looks like we are going to have to use our imaginations and decorate in our minds!

I wish the light fixture had not been covered in plastic, so that I could have taken a picture of it & you could see just how pretty it is~

Look at how pretty & colorful it is, it would make me so happy to have one of these vardos~

I was so impressed that they put solar panels on the roof~SMART!  I hate camping but if I had one of these I would go every weekend~

Take a look at the interior of these vardos~ some are so elegant~

I love the colors used in this vardo~                            Look at the intricate wood work on this one~

The interior of these are so tight it amazes me what one is able to put in~
Many different styles, I am not picky I will take anyone, just make sure it has the solar panels on the roof~

They all look so cozy~ Which one do you like?

I Really am Here~NOW!

Okay, so I thought that when I made my blog comeback I would be posting on a regular basis, but as you know that was not the case.  We decided just a few short weeks before hand that we were going to take a family vacation and we would be gone for the whole month.  We wanted to go some place that we had never been before so we looked at North Carolina and the states between here and there.  I thought it would be great to blog from our vacation but that was not to be.  We rented a cabin that was remote so remote, that in order to get to it we needed to drive on dirt roads to get to our cabin high in the mountains.  When we first arrived I was excited because we had internet and I would start on my blog the following day, well... that night we got a bad rain/thunder/lighting storm and although it sounded nice, so soothing and we all slept great, but with all of that rucus we had NO internet service the following morning when I wanted to started on my blog  Originally I was upset, but then I thought, we took this vacation to connect as a family and nothing was going to get in the way of us being together.  It was tough getting ready for our vacation, as I got pretty sick with gallstones and in incredible pain (may need surgery if this medicine does not work/help)and one of my angels needed to have surgery so needless to say I was VERY BUSY prior to leaving and consequently I did not get online to post nor did I have the time to get online to check on anything.  In fact I was given an award & I did not know about it for more than a month & a half.  =0(

Allow me please to share some pictures from our vacation~

This was a cute little shed that had ivy growing all over it.  I loved the way it looked!
This is our deck from the cabin~the angels would swing in the evenings it was so cool and we never needed AC~
This is the view from our cabin, you could see forever~SOOOO Beautiful!
I got the biggest kick out of this utensil holder, it looks like he is holding on to his boobies!

Since we have been back the angels started school and I have been busy shopping for clothes, shoes & supplies since I was not able prior to us leaving on vacation. I have also been busy finishing up some projects I started prior to our departure, cleaning the house, ironing the angels school clothes, meeting new teachers, fixing breakfasts, snacks, lunches and dinner I honestly have not had anytime to sit & catch my breath, today I made myself sit down & take a break & let you all know I was still here & missed my blog & of course YOU!  On my next post I will share some more pictures from our vacation and then start showing you the projects I/we finished~
